Achievements

The Department of Mechanical Engineering has recorded a robust campus placement season for the 2024-25 academic year, with 69 students securing a total of 76 job offers from various leading companies. This professional success is matched by the department's strong performance in research and innovation, and excellence in teaching and learning.

The innovative project carried out by a group of students, Hisana, Muhammed Nazil, Muhammed Shan, and Navaneeth Saran Alby, under the guidance of Asst. Professor Sravan KK have been awarded the Best Project Award 2025, presented by the Darshana Foundation.

Dr. Vinod V, HoD, Mechanical Engineering, has been nominated as Dean, Faculty of Engineering, Calicut University. Congratulations!

Team RACER X, the NSSCE team for M-BAJA, has achieved a remarkable milestone. They've secured the first position in the All Kerala level and an impressive 11th position in the All India level for the virtual round (Round 1) of the SAE M-BAJA 2026 competition.

Dr. Dipin Kumar R, Asst. Professor, Mechanical Engineering, has been nominated as a National Governing Council Member of the prestigious Indian Welding Society (IWS). Congratulations!

The Department of Mechanical Engineering continues to strengthen its research and innovation portfolio, reaching a total of 16 published patents over the past four years. Recent notable publications highlight the department's diverse expertise. Dr. Vinod V has published patents for a "Convertible Wheel Chair cum bed - A convertible wheel chair cum bed for elderly people with a bed to bed transfer facility and IOT facilities", and a novel "Charging System and payment method for Electric Vehicles." Meanwhile, Vivek V.M. has contributed patents for a "Method and Apparatus for Enhancing Efficiency in Solar Power Systems using Maximum Point Tracking" and a sustainable process for "Preparation of hollow bricks using waste plastic."

Dr. Jyothi Sankar P R, Associate Professor, Mechanical Engineering, has been recognised as an NPTEL superstar and an NPTEL Champion for the session JAN -- APRIL 2025. The "Champion" title is reserved for individuals who successfully pass a minimum of eight NPTEL certification exams in a single session, signifying an outstanding commitment to continuing education. Congratulations!

Mr. Dipin Kumar R, Asst. Professor, Mechanical Engineering, has successfully defended the PhD Thesis titled "SURFACE MODIFICATION ASSISTED DIFFUSION BONDING OF PURE COPPER, AA6082 AND WIRE ARC ADDITIVELY MANUFACTURED COMPONENTS" at IIT Delhi on 16/04/2025.

In a significant international recognition, Asst. Professor Dipin Kumar R, Mechanical Engineering, received the highly rated commendation from the "Raiser Innovation Award for Friction Welding", Germany, for innovative research and development in the field of friction welding technology. The award, presented by the German friction welding firm Klaus Raiser GmbH & Co. KG, acknowledges their innovative research in the field.

Ms Priyanka C P, Assistant Professor(Ad-hoc), Mechanical Engineering has successfully defended PhD thesis titled "Studies on osteogenic and bacterial adhesion behaviours of Titanium based bioimplants with surface modifications" at Government Engineering College Thrissur (affiliated to APJ Abdul Kalam Technological University Kerala) on 08/01/2025.

The college's SAE BAJA team travelled to Pithampur, Madhya Pradesh, to compete in the SAE BAJA 2025 national event. The competition was hosted at the National Automotive Test Tracks (NATRAX) on January 11th and 12th, 2025. The event provided a national stage for the team to showcase their custom-built, single-seat, all-terrain vehicle.

Dr. Kiron K R, Professor, Mechanical Engineering, has been awarded the Best Paper Award at the International Conference on Next Generation Technologies: Design and Manufacturing, IIT Madras

A team of students mentored by Dr. Vinod V has successfully secured an Idea Grant of ₹3 Lakhs from the Kerala Startup Mission (KSUM) for the year 2025. The grant was awarded for their innovative project, a "Motorized Wheelchair cum Bed," which aims to improve mobility and comfort for users. The winning team includes students Adithya S, Afrad Hussian, Ajay A, Aswin R Nath, and Dhananjay PS, whose work was recognized for its practical application and social impact potential. Congratulations to the students and mentor.

The student team behind the 'Motorized Wheelchair cum Bed' project secured the Best Project Award at IGNITE 2023. Students Adithya S, Afrad Hussian, Ajay A, Aswin R Nath, and Dhananjay PS, under the mentorship of Dr. Vinod V, were recognized for their outstanding innovation with a trophy and a monetary prize at the event.

The IPR Cell of NSS College of Engineering, Palakkad, has been recognized with the 'Best IPR Cell Award 2023'. Dr. Vinod V, Professor in the Department of Mechanical Engineering and Coordinator of the IPR Cell, accepted the award from Dr. Saji Gopinath, the Hon'ble Vice Chancellor of Digital University and KTU. The award was presented on 12/01/2024 to acknowledge the extraordinary performance in strengthening the Intellectual Property Rights (IPR) ecosystem at the institution.
