    N S S College of Engineering, Palakkad is one of the most reputed, premier engineering educational Institution in Kerala. Founded in 1960 by Nair Service Society under the leadership of late Bharatha Kesari Mannathu Padmanabhan, during the second five year plan with the assistance of the Central and State Government under the grant-in-aid scheme, affiliated to the Kerala Technological University, the College has an enviable heritage and legacy of grooming brilliant engineering professionals who later made their mark in industrial and other sectors of the country and abroad.

    Situated in NSS Nagar at Akathethara, 9 km from Palakkad town, the Campus is easily accessible, being only 4 km from the Palakkad Railway Junction, and is only 5 km from the renowned Malampuzha Gardens. Nearest Airports are at Coimbatore (55Kkm) and Cochin International (110 Km). Spread over 125 Acres, it includes an Administrative Block, Separate blocks for each Department, A Library block and four Hostels including one for Ladies. Nestling among verdant foothills, this is a tranquil and serene setting for higher education.

  • The Nair Service Society (NSS) is an organization created for the upliftment and welfare of the Nair community. It is headquartered at Perunna in the town of Changanassery in Kottayam District, Kerala State, India. It was established under the leadership of Mannathu Padmanabhan. The NSS is a three tier organisation with Karayogams at the base level, Taluk Unions at the intermediate level and the Headquarters at the apex level.


    The Society owns and manages a large number of educational institutions and hospitals. These include the NSS College of Engineering at Palakkad, NSS Hindu College at Changanassery, NSS College at Pandalam, Mahatma Gandhi College at Thiruvananthapuram, Pazhassi Raja NSS College at Mattanur, Kannur and the Women's College at Niramankara, Thiruvananthapuram. Taking the lead given by Mannath Padmanabhan, expatriate Nairs both in other states of India as well as in countries other than India have formed Nair Service Societies in their states and countries of domicile. Examples are Karnatka Nair Service Society with 21 karayogams in Bangalore, and the Calcutta Nair Service Society in Kolkata. These Societies of Non Kerala origin retain the cultural uniqueness of the Nairs at the same time adapting many practices to the times and country of their adoption. Efforts are on to bring together all Nair groups the world over under an umbrella "International Federation of Nair Societies".

  • The activities of the College are guided by governing body, formulated by the management of Nair Service Society, located at Perunnai, Changanacherry, Kerala. A committee of Head of Departments (HOD) with 3 elected members of faculty is formed as Advisory Board to the Principal of the institution for each year called College Council. They must discuss frequently and debate on how to plan activities and improve working of the college. The College Council meets at least once in a month or as and when it is necessary.

    Principal as the head of institution and heads of the department provide the leadership and motivation for pursuit of excellence with the spirit of team work. Policy discussions are taken in meetings of Heads of Department and are conveyed to staff through department meetings,and thereby maintains the total transparency. At department level, faculty meetings are held to monitor department activities. All faculties who contribute to achievement of goals and objectives are honored in faculty meeting.
